The passing of Phyllis Helen
Stewart occurred at Gables Lodge on Thursday, December
5, 2024. Originally from Montrose, Colchester County, she
has lived in Oxford, NS, for over fifty years. Phyllis was
the daughter of the late Neil and Mary (Richards)
MacKinnon.
Phyllis loved to cook and loved her children with all of her
heart. She describes the best time in her life as being during the
holidays when she cooked big meals and had all of her family together.
She worked for several years at Oxford Frozen Foods, Seagull Pewter,
and for three years at the Oxford High School
cafeteria.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son,
Christopher Neil Stewart; a daughter, Marlene Cooke; a granddaughter,
Marilyn Christine Cooke; two grandsons, Arthur Burton Cooke and Kevin
James Cooke; three sisters, Barbara MacLellan, Agnes MacKinnon, and
Carolyn Mattix, as well as a brother, in infancy, Lloyd Wallace
MacKinnon. She was also predeceased by her first husband,
Arthur Burton Cooke of Great Village.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Stewart; three sons,
Kevin, Michael and Randy Cooke, as well as two daughters, Marilyn
Cooke and Lorraine Blakey and a brother, Neil MacKinnon, as well as
her special friends Nancy Arsenault, Wendy Osborne, and Doris
Dixon.
A special thank you from Phyllis is extended to her sons
Randy and Michael for always being there for her, and to Elizabeth
Cooke, who was like a daughter to her, for her loving care and
delicious cooking. Also a big thank you to all the VON
workers (especially the sassy one) for their compassion and care and
to all those who phoned, sent cards or brought food
