It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Sigrid Gudrun Wood, age 91, of Oxford. Sigrid, known to many as Siggi, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18th, 2024 at East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash with family by her side.
Born in River Philip, she was a daughter of the late K. Wilhelm and Therese (Ortmann) Legge, where a strong work ethic and dedication to family would form the ethos of her daily life and future role as an educator.
In 1949, Sigrid would marry Howard and have three children. Driven by an ambition to further her education, she would quit her job sewing garments at Stanfield's and enroll at the Nova Scotia Teacher's College, where she would graduate in 1972.
Siggi would go on to dedicate the next 20 years as an English teacher at ORHS, a role that would help shape and define countless students throughout her career.
Siggi will be dearly missed by her three children; Edward, Velma (Marcus) and Kevin; stepdaughter Donna Rae; grandchildren Patrick (April) and Tyler; great grandchildren Rebecca (Andrew), Leland, Liam and Samantha; great-great granddaughter Leven.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Howard Wood in 1978 and long time partner Russell Rae in 2015.
The loss of "Aunt Siggi" will be felt deeply amongst all of her other various family and close friends as well.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W. Allen Funeral Home (902-447-2167), Oxford NS. A funeral service to celebrate Siggi's life will take place on Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at the Oxford Church of Nazarene at 2 PM with Pastor Jodi Getson presiding.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Siggi's memory may do so to Covenant House of Toronto, Big Lake Camp in Oxford or a charity of choice
