Joseph Henry Hawes, age 71, of
Kolbec, passed away peacefully at the East Cumberland Lodge on
Saturday, September 26, 2014 with his family by his side.
Born in East Chezzetcook, he was the son of the late Joseph and
Mildred (Pettipas) Hawes.
Joe lived in Toronto
for a number of years where he became an active member of Alcoholics
Anonymous. He worked in the roofing business and returned to
Chezzetcook to work as a carpenter, building houses and doing general
carpentry work. Joe moved to Kolbec in 1997, built a home
and retired there. Joe enjoyed the simple things in life,
spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, country
music jams, and had a love for horses. He will be remembered
for his great sense of humor and made lifelong friends with everyone
he met.
He will be sadly missed by
his loving wife, Phyllis (Dickie) Hawes; son, William (Billy), Conrod
Settlement; granddaughters, Crystal, Foster, Toronto, and Amber
Foster, Burlington and a great granddaughter, Lily, Burlington;
stepsons, John and Jason Dickie, West Leicester, NS; a stepdaughter,
Debbie Field, Port Howe, NS; step-grandchildren, Justin, Peter, Ryan,
Brittany, Bryson and Lily-May; brother, Raymond (Jenny) Hawes,
Heatherton; sisters, Barbara (Harold) Crawford, East Chezzetcook,
Greta (Lawson) Smith, Lake Echo, Gloria (Blake) Bayers, East
Petpeswick, Marguerite Pettipas, Dartmouth; as well as many nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he
was predeceased by Paulette and Shirley Hawes; his son, Andrew and
brothers William and Raymond.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care and guidance of W.
Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford (902-447-2167).
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joe's life will
be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 2 pm at the Church Of the
Nazarene, Oxford. Rev. Mark Collins officiating.
Reception to follow.
There will also be a
Celebration of Life at a funeral mass in St. Genevieve's Church, East
Chezzetcook, NS, on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11 am.
Father Randy Doucette presiding. Interment will follow in
the church cemetery, followed by a reception in the church hall.
The family would especially like to thank the
staff of the East Cumberland Lodge for their compassion and care
provided to Joe and his family through this difficult time, as well as
Patti Bulmer-Dickie who went out of her way to give special care and
love to Joe wile in the hospital. God Bless you all.
