Hurley, Alexis Daniel
("Dannie") – 77, Thomson Station, N.S.,
passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2013 with his family at his
side.
Born in Maccan, N.S., he was the son of
the late Alexis and Amie (Collins) Hurley.
Dannie began his career working for the
Canadian National Railway (CNR) when he was 15 years old. He went on
to work with Cumberland Paving before spending two years as a crane
operator with Westinghouse Electrical in Libya in the early 80s. Upon
his return from Africa, Dannie worked at Will-Kare Paving in Truro
until his retirement.
Dannie loved the great outdoors and
could be found outside whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed hunting
and fishing with his sons and grandsons. Dannie had a great sense of
humor and was always quick with a joke or a
torment.
Dannie is survived by his wife of over
53 years, Norma Joyce (Smith) Hurley; daughter Denise (George) Dorn;
sons Alan (Clara) and Arnold (Jackie); grandchildren Alana (Tim),
Danielle (Dwight), Jonathan (Lyndsey), Dorian, Nora (Andrew), Thane,
Catherine and great grandchildren Jackson and Beau; brothers and
sisters, Joyce (Ronald) Ripley, Ross Hurley, Irvin (Claudia) Hurley,
Linda (Ronald) Boss, and Cathy (Barry) Harroun; mother-in-law Vera
(Thompson) Smith and best pal and cousin, Gardner (Bud)
Hurley.
Besides his parents, Dannie was
predeceased by brothers Gervin, Aubrey, Conrad, sister-in-law Margaret
(Meg), and father-in-law, Wilson A. Smith.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements
have been entrusted to W Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, NS
(902-447-2167) where visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013
at W Allen Funeral Home at 2 pm with Rev. Gary MacDougall officiating.
Committal to follow at the Thomson Cemetery.
