It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elva Pearl Black (nee MacDonald) age 85 of Riverview, NS, originally of Bayhead, NS. Elva passed away in her sleep in the early morning of Sunday, November 28th, 2021, with her daughter Janie by her side.

Born in Bayhead, NS, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Pearl (Pipes) MacDonald.

Known by family and friends for her everlasting resilience, Elva battled several critical health challenges in her life where she defied the odds. Even in her final days, she found reasons to smile, including dressing up for Halloween, playing board games, and lighthearted banter with the staff and fellow residents at East Cumberland Lodge.

She left a lasting impression on everyone she met with her kindhearted and fun-loving demeanor.

Throughout her life, Elva took particular pride in hosting family for holidays and special occasions, taking care of many pets over the years, and tending to the family farm's prized purebred Hereford cattle.

Elva is survived by her husband of 62 years, Roy, originally of Springhill; sister Mary (Donn) Mattinson, of Riverview NS; children James (Tisha) of Springhill, Joel (Wendy) of Courtenay, BC and Janie (Marika) of Finland; grandchildren Jeffrey (Erica) of Coldbrook, Joshua (Nikita) of Springhill, Justin (Caitlyn) Dickie of Debert and Peter (Emily) Dickie of Leicester; and great-grandchildren Liam, Oliver, Avery and Shandi as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by siblings Stewart, Ottawa, ON; Roderick, Rockley, NS; Kenneth, Bayhead, NS and several cherished pets.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, NS (902-447-2167). Per Elva's request, no public funeral service or visitation will be held. Interment will take place in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elva's name may be made to Mount Pleasant Cemetery, the Victorian Order of Nurses, Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of your choice.
