Purdy,
Muriel Grace - Wiliamsdale, NS; Surrounded by family who
loved her dearly, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing
of Muriel Purdy at CRHCC, Amherst, on September 20th.
A strong
but kind and gentle soul, born May 25th, 1919 in Amherst, NS, to
Irving and Myra (Purdy) Crawford, most of her childhood was spent in
Millvale, NS.
In her
late teens, she attended the Amherst Academy and then Normal College
in Truro. While teaching school, she married Ivan Keith
Purdy in 1942. Muriel was a member of the Miillvale United
Church, serving as Elder, secretary/treasurer, organist and other
offices over the years. She was a member of the Order of the
Eastern Star, life member of the Millvale UCW and she gave leadership
and support to local community groups and projects, like CGIT and
4H.
Muriel
delighted in her personal collection of her family history and loved
sharing her knowledge and stories of the past with an amazing
attention to detail. She was an avid reader and enjoyed
crossword puzzles, knitting and keeping in touch through her
iPad. Visits with family and friends of her age became fewer
but the stories they shared were treasures of the past.
Muriel
had been a school teacher, wife and loving mother. Upon the
unexpected death of her husband in 1983, Muriel carried on the family
business as blueberry producer and wood lot owner, with the support of
two sons, Wendel and Gordon.
She was
devoted and was much loved by her family. Muriel is survived
by her children, Bob (Sharon) Purdy, Onoway, AB, Wendel (Linda) Purdy,
Williamsdale, NS, Judy (Bruce) Corkum, Bridgewater, NS, Elizabeth
MacArthur, Claremont, NS, Lloyd (Rachelle) Purdy, Cap Cocagne, NB,
Patricia Brown, Williamsdale, NS, Dan Purdy, Williamsdale, NS and
Rebecca Purdy, Amherst, NS. Remembering most every birthday
and occasion with a card, Muriel loved her whole family including 22
grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and her extended family. The fate of her son
Joe Purdy remains unknown.
She was
predeceased by her husband Ivan Purdy, children, Donna Purdy and
Gordon Purdy, grandson Michael Purdy and her brother Norman Crawford.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water
